Artist Guilds

The Artist Guilds affiliated with Pittsburgh Center for the Arts have a long and rich history with the organization. The Guilds play an important role in the PCA's exhibition program, bringing innovative programs and works by talented national and international artists to the PCA's Marshall Galleries.

If you are an artist looking for exhibition opportunities at the PCA or a way to connect and network with other artists in the region, becoming a Guild Member would be a great place to start. For more information on Artist Guilds, contact the individual Guilds.

Current members of affiliated Artist Guilds receive $15 of an Associate Membership with Pittsburgh Filmmakers/Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.

The artwork was chosen by the Women of Vision exhibition committee.  This exhibition is comprised of the images of women who have influenced us, our families, our friends, and society.  We are the building blocks and the mortar.  The purpose of the exhibit is to highlight, celebrate, and honor the myriad aspects of our lives. These works touch upon the complexities of race, wealth, and the political empowerment of women, and what it means to be an African American working and living in America. Our images in this exhibition are a tribute to what it means to triumph over adversity.

As African American visual artists, we take great pride in educating, documenting and sharing opportunities not only for our group, but also for the African American visual artist community living and working in Pittsburgh.  We have invited female and male visual artists to create, celebrate, and pay tribute to the women in our lives.

Images of Women features works in a variety of media including painting, printmaking, drawing, fiber, collage, and photography.

2012: End of Time, presented by Pittsburgh Print Group

Much has been made of the Mayan calendar's prediction that the end of time is December 21, 2012. In this show, work by regional printmakers employ printmaking processes (such as relief, intaglio, silkscreen, lithography, and monotype) to address this profound theme from an artist's point of view.  "As mortals we all face the inevitable end of ourselves in the world. As artists we have the power to create our own visions of what may lie ahead both for the world and ourselves." Juror John Caperton has curated 25 exhibitions for The Print Center (Philadelphia, PA) since 2007.

Lenses and Filters: A View Through the Needle's Eye presented by the Fiberarts Guild of Pittsburgh, Inc.

Do we observe the world through rose-colored glasses, or use blinders? The theme for this exhibit is perception, as it is filtered through the unique lens of the artist. The work presented by these fiber artists portrays a glimpse into the worldview by which we see. Juror Susan Brandeis is Distinguished Professor of Art and Design at North Carolina State University. She earned her MFA from the University of Kansas. She'll have a Juror Talk on June 2, details to be announced.

TONE IT UP! presented by the Pittsburgh Society of Artists

PSA invited its members and members of other local guilds to "pump up the volume" about something they were passionate about, whether political, environmental, cultural, etc. This theme is in response to officials suggesting the public should "tone down" their rhetoric. Artists were encouraged to tell compelling stories with their work. This exhibit, which features a variety of media: installation, film and video, includes more than 40 pieces. Three juror awards will be given. Juror Greg Harrison is currently Chair of the Department of Art & Design at California University of PA. He earned his MFA  from Edinboro University.

Recreation/Renewal/Rebirth, presented by Pittsburgh Society of Sculptors

In this exhibition sculptors are exploring the theme of transformation on a variety of levels. Some artists have created a second life for materials that were previously discarded, or had a previous life in nature, such as wood, stone, metals, or other natural materials. This theme might also apply to a personal rebirth or one with a global perspective. Cash awards will be presented. Juror Lori Nix is an accomplished non-traditional photographer.
