PCA SHOP: Holiday Shop Retail

The shop is seeking an experienced retailer with a passion for art and strong customer service skills. Successful candidates will help assist in set-up and display as the shop expands into a large space for the annual Holiday Shop. Shop staff is also expected to familiarize themselves with individual shop artist’s medium, style, and approaches to their creating in an effort to best inform interested patrons.

PF: Equipment Office

Duties include assisting students and members with equipment questions, assisting instructors, dispensing equipment, equipment and facility maintenence, mixing chemistry, film projection, and some light clerical work. Internships in exchange for access may be arranged. Experience in film, video, photography, and computers is helpful, but not required.

Sewing Instructor

Position Description:
PCA is hiring an artist with experience with techniques in fashion design and sewing fundamentals. The artist will teach middle school and high school fashion design and sewing programs beginning this upcoming summer and continuing on an on-going basis into the school year. Instructors must submit lesson plans and attend an art camp orientation before summer programs begin. All artists are independent contractors; this is not a part-time position.

Summer Weekend Office Assistant

Description:

Pittsburgh Center for the Arts School requires a part-time Office Assistant to assist in the administration of our year-round classes for children and adults, and day-to-day maintenance of our school. The Office Assistant will work closely with the Director of Studio Arts, Registrar and the rest of the education staff, including PCA’s instructors.

If you are a local visual artist or creative writer and have a unique idea for an educational program, submit a Class Proposal Form. Before submitting, please first familiarize yourself with the programs PCA currently offers. Artists that have not taught at PCA in the past three years should submit a resume and two examples of work through the online application. Applications will be accepted year-round.

PCA SCHOOL: Child, Teen & Family Teaching Artist - Studio Arts

Position Description:
We are hiring artists to teach studio arts programs to children, teenagers and families. Opportunities are on an on-gong basis beginning this fall and are in various formats such as weekend and afternoon classes, full-day camps and weekend workshops for families. PCA instructors must share PCA’s approach to arts education and art making, which emphasizes the balance between process and product. This means that our instructors impart to students the importance of the creative journey and not just the final outcome.

Internships

Internship applications are accepted year-round. Day and evening opportunities available. To apply, please fill out the appropriate form for the internships you are interested in listed below. If your application is of interest to us, you will be contacted for an interview.

All internships are unpaid. Opportunities available from weekly to full semesters. There is the option to continue the internship after one semester if agreed upon by the intern and supervisor. College credit is available upon request.

Qualifications: Must be reliable, mature, and able to handle responsibility with enthusiasm.


 

PCA School: Summer Teaching Assistant

Position Description: 
Assistants will support the classroom instructors in weeklong studio arts camps for students ranging in age from 4 to 18. Camps begin on June 9 and continue until August 22. Weekend hours are also available. This is an unpaid opportunity with the possibility of college internship credits through participating colleges and universities. 

PF/PCA Exhibitions

Position Description:
Interns will support the PF/PCA Exhibitions Department in one of more of the areas listed below. This is an unpaid opportunity with the possibility of college internship credits through participating colleges and universities. Internship positions are available on a semester schedule to coincide with local universities. One to three interns are selected at a time.

PCA SCHOOL: Ceramics Studio Intern Position

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and maneuver a dolly fork truck. (Training will be provided).
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • The Ceramic Intern position will be a combination of physical and computer related work.
  • Ability to focus on multiple projects.

Position Description:

PF: Video Production

Production Services interns assist with all aspects of our small production team. On-set and off-set, you gain hands-on experience from pre-production to post and produce marketing deliverables for PF/PCA programs and events. 126 hours unpaid work with small stipends for occasional grip work.
